CHRISAGON 2022-2023
On the 3rd of February 2023, Christ College, Vizhinjam hosted the Annual Athletic Meet at the Kerala University Stadium, Thiruvananthapuram. It was a day filled with excitement, shrills, thrills and cheers. The event was organized by the Department of Physical Education. The chief guest of the day was Ms Tiji Raju, a prominent International Volleyball player.
The day started off with the salutations to the Lord Almighty. Then, the students assembled on the ground in their department’s respective colour code. This was followed by the march past, a highly competitive event where all the teams eyed for the first prize. Later, Dr. Usha Kumari, Head of the department, department of Malayalam delivered the welcome address. This was followed by the chief guest’s inaugural address and declaration of the meet open. Ms Tiji Raju then hosted the flag, which was followed by the athletes taking the oath, which was delivered by the sports captain. Then the torch relay was held. The respected principal then delivered a felicitation which was followed by the sports vice-captain. Athletes then dispersed to their respective stations. With this, the opening ceremony came to an end.
The first event was the 1500m race for both men and women. This was followed by the events of shot put, long jump, heats of the 400m, 200m, 100m races, the final 200m race, discuss throw and high jump; for both men and women athletes. Students of various departments participated whole heartedly. The the event dispersed for lunch. After the break, the 400m and 100m race finals for both men and women were held. Then the 4x100m relay for men and women were also held.
The audience played a critical role as supporters, motivators, caregivers and cheer leaders, before, during and after each event. Even though the competitions were department wise, the division didn’t affect their co-operation and unity.
The prizes for the winners of each event was distributed right after the conclusion of the particular event. To determine the overall champions and the first and second runner up points were awarded to each departments based on the number of prize winners they had. The results are declared and awards were given out during the closing ceremony which was held soon after.
The closing ceremony began with a welcome address delivered by the sports club secretary. Then the prizes were distributed. For sports events like football, cricket, handball etc, which were held on the previous days. After the prize distribution the meet was declared closed and the flag was lowered. Then the sports vice-captain delivered the vote of thanks. After the National Anthem, the Annual Athletic Meet, 2022-23 officially came to an end. The meet became a grand success because hard work and effort put in by everyone behind it.
