overview

The Department of English at Christ College embarked on its journey through language and literature in 2014, the same year the college was established. Since then, our academic community has been consistently pursuing innovative approaches to empower language learners with self-confidence, creativity, linguistic competence, critical thinking, values, problem-solving abilities, research aptitude, and effective communication skills.

The department offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in English Language and Literature and is affiliated to the University of Kerala.

These programmes enable students to develop a deeper appreciation of literature and enhance their aesthetic sensibilities, motivating them to explore the realms of language and literary studies. To promote the holistic development of students, the department organizes a variety of extension activities such as lecture series, field trips, film screenings, theatrical performances, NSS initiatives, quiz competitions, seminars, and other literary events. The activities of the English Literary Association (ELA) play a vital role in enriching students’ literary sensibilities while also enhancing their pronunciation and communicative abilities. Internship programmes are implemented to support students’ personal and professional growth. In addition, the department provides consistent academic support and guidance to help students excel in competitive examinations and achieve their academic aspirations.
