FACULTY AWARENESS PROGRAMME

National Service Scheme in association with IQAC, organized a Faculty Awareness Programme titled “അടുത്തറിയാം ലഹരിയുടെ നിയമം” on July 1, 2024. The event, held at the Audio Visual Room, aimed to educate and sensitize faculty members about drug laws and the impact of drug abuse, especially among teenagers.

The inauguration ceremony commenced at 2:00 PM with an insightful address by Mr. Ajay K R, Assistant Excise Commissioner and Vimukthi Manager of the Excise Department. He emphasized the critical role educators play in curbing the menace of drug abuse. Mr. Ajay K R elaborated on the various laws and regulations governing drug use and the stringent measures taken by the Excise Department to combat drug trafficking and consumption. His speech highlighted the importance of a collective effort in creating a drug-free society.

Following the inauguration, an orientation session was conducted by Mr. Vignesh S. A., District Coordinator of the Vimukthi Mission, Excise Department. As the resource person for the session, Mr. Vignesh provided a comprehensive overview of the types of drugs commonly abused by teenagers. Utilizing visual aids, he showcased various drugs and explained their harmful effects on physical and mental health. His presentation underscored the ease with which teenagers can access these substances and the critical need for vigilance and preventive measures within educational institutions.

During the session, the faculty members were made aware of the psychological and physiological side effects of drug abuse. Mr. Vignesh highlighted how addiction can severely impact the cognitive and emotional development of young individuals. The discussion also covered strategies for identifying and supporting students who might be struggling with drug-related issues. The resource person emphasized the importance of early intervention and the role of educators in providing a supportive environment for students to seek help.

The programme concluded with an interactive Q & A session, where faculty members engaged with the speakers, seeking clarifications and sharing their concerns. The event was successful in enhancing the faculty’s understanding of drug laws and the detrimental effects of drug abuse, equipping them with the knowledge to better guide and support their students. Overall, the Faculty Awareness Programme was a significant step towards fostering a safer and healthier educational environment.
