International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking

The Department of Social Work, Christ College Vizhinjam, observed the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on 26th June 2025 with a special awareness program held on campus. The event aimed to educate students and the community about the serious impact of drug abuse and the importance of preventing illicit drug trafficking.

The session featured two distinguished speakers from The Dale View Care Point:

Dr. Ananthakrishnan, Consultant Psychiatrist, who addressed the psychological causes and consequences of addiction. He emphasized the importance of early intervention, community support, and the role of mental health in recovery.

Ms. Leebamol, Social Worker, who shared her field experiences in dealing with individuals affected by substance abuse. She also discussed rehabilitation strategies and the vital role of social work professionals in prevention efforts.

The interactive session was well-received by students and faculty alike, fostering awareness, empathy, and a commitment to a drug-free lifestyle. The event concluded with a pledge by participants to stand against drug abuse and support those in need.This program reflects the department’s ongoing commitment to addressing pressing social issues through education, outreach, and collaboration with professionals in the field.
