The Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) of Christ College, Vizhinjam has been constituted in accordance with the provisions of the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013, and the UGC Regulations, 2015.
The committee is committed to create and maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all students and staff. It aims to prevent and address any instances of sexual harassment within the campus and to promote gender sensitization through awareness initiatives. All complaints are handled with confidentiality, sensitivity, and fairness.
Definition:
Sexual harassment means any unwanted behaviour of a sexual nature that:
- Makes a person feel humiliated, uncomfortable, or unsafe.
- Creates a hostile or intimidating environment.
- Tries to make someone submit through threats or pressure.
- Unwelcome physical, verbal, or non-verbal sexual behaviour.
- Demands or requests for sexual favours.
- Sexually coloured comments or jokes
- Physical contact or advances.
- Showing pornography or sexual content.
- Promising rewards or benefits in return for sexual favours.
- Threatening harm or punishment if such favours are not given.
- Threatening someone’s work or academic status.
- Creating an intimidating or offensive environment.
- Any humiliating or unsafe treatment that affects a person’s dignity or well-being.
Objectives
- To provide a safe and conducive working and learning environment for all members of the college community.
- To prevent any form of sexual harassment on campus and take prompt action in case of complaints.
- To ensure fair, confidential, and timely redressal of grievances related to sexual harassment.
- To conduct awareness and sensitization programs on gender equity and women’s rights.
- To uphold the dignity and self-esteem of students and staff by fostering mutual respect and equality.
Functions of ICC
- To receive and address complaints of sexual harassment or gender-based misconduct.
- To conduct impartial inquiries into complaints and recommend appropriate action to the Principal.
- To provide counseling and support services to the affected individual, if required.
- To organize workshops, seminars, and awareness sessions on gender sensitivity, legal rights, and respectful conduct.
- To maintain strict confidentiality and proper documentation of all complaints and proceedings
