OBC Cell – Christ College Vizhinjam

Establishment of the Cell

The OBC Cell of Christ College Vizhinjam has been constituted with the aim of supporting and uplifting students belonging to Other Backward Classes (OBC). The Cell works towards the effective implementation of various welfare schemes and policies introduced by the University Grants Commission (UGC), Government of India, and State Government, including scholarships, stipends, and other educational assistance programmes for reserved category students.
Objectives of the OBC Cell

  • To create awareness among OBC students and staff about the educational, financial, and career opportunities provided by the Government and other agencies.
  • To ensure the proper implementation and regular monitoring of reservation policies and welfare programmes introduced by the Government of India and UGC.
  • To promote academic growth and skill enhancement by organizing Continuing Education Programmes (CEPs), workshops, and training sessions for students, researchers, teaching faculty, and non-teaching staff.
Functions of the OBC Cell
  • To communicate and circulate notifications, orders, and guidelines issued by the University, Government of India, and UGC regarding matters related to OBC students and staff.
  • To collect and maintain course-wise data on admissions of OBC candidates in various programmes offered by the college and undertake necessary follow-up actions whenever required.
  • To obtain and study reports, policies, and directives issued by the Government and UGC concerning education, employment, and training opportunities for OBC candidates, and suggest improvements wherever necessary.
  • To prepare reports and summaries based on the collected information and forward them to the concerned authorities such as the Ministry of Education, Government of India, and UGC.
  • To supervise and support remedial coaching programmes and academic assistance schemes for OBC and minority students.
  • To coordinate with Government agencies, UGC, and other organizations for obtaining scholarships, freeships, and financial support for OBC and minority students.
  • To undertake any additional responsibilities assigned by the University for promoting higher education and overall development among OBC students
